  • Single SOC test challenge for Blu-ray DVD

“The Blu-ray dvd single chip soc architecture introduces challenging high-speed and high fidelity mixed signal test requirements and test solutions In this article, Don Blair and Keita Gunji of Agilent Technologies discuss a mass production, low-cost test approach. The Blu-ray dvd epitomises technology convergence of high-speed, high-performance digital, memory and mixed signal disciplines. These devices bring new challenges to the test community in terms of converged capabilities required, performance and test economics.High-density optical disk media, for example, requires high data rates to realise real-time video signal transmission. Figure 1 shows different speed points for recordable CD and dvd standards. As the media write speed increases, the pulse width of the laser decreases. This requirement also drives a test need for higher sample rates on automatic test equipment (ATE). An arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) that supplies the 50 to 100MHz read signal and a digitiser to measure the write pulse width are the main test challenges for the Blu-ray disc dvd device.
